This weekend I escaped the frigid New England weather and headed down to Florida for a girls weekend. We arrived just in time for Gasparilla, the annual pirate festival in Tampa Bay which celebrates a mythical Spanish pirate captain, José Gaspar, who supposedly operated in Southwest Florida. The event kicked off with an ‘invasion’, followed by a parade and the sun even came out to join in the celebrations.
We spent the rest of the weekend in St Petersburg, making the most of being able to be outside with trips to the beach, bike rides and enjoying al fresco dining.
